Humanize product descriptions in English

A useful product description helps someone decide whether an item fits their needs. It should explain what the product does, what comes with it, and which details might affect a purchase. Use Humanizely in Standard mode to revise stiff English copy, then check the result against your product records. The goal is clearer buying information, not a more persuasive version of an unsupported claim.

Who this is for

For ecommerce teams, independent sellers, catalog editors, and copywriters revising English product pages from supplier text, rough drafts, or AI-assisted descriptions.

Translate features into useful buying information

Start with the product category and its practical purpose. A reader should not have to decode “an elevated hydration solution” to discover that you sell a water bottle. Follow with the features that distinguish the item, then explain their relevance without assuming results you cannot establish. For example, a removable shelf can offer flexibility for taller objects if the available space supports that use. It does not automatically “double your storage.” Separate documented features from interpretations: material, capacity, compatibility, and included accessories belong in your factual checklist. Benefits should follow logically from those facts. If a benefit needs evidence, obtain it or leave it out.

Make English sound natural without changing the offer

Natural product copy uses familiar verbs, specific nouns, and varied but manageable sentences. Replace “facilitates effortless organization” with the actual action, such as “keeps pens and small stationery together.” Remove stacked adjectives when they add no buying information. Keep technical terms when shoppers need them to compare products or confirm compatibility. Choose US or UK spelling according to the storefront, and apply it consistently. Do not casually convert measurements or substitute a regional size label: rounding and sizing conventions can change what customers expect. Preserve model names, quantities, care restrictions, and warranty wording. A friendly tone must not turn “water-resistant” into “waterproof,” or “assembly required” into a promise of easy setup.

Use Standard mode as an editing step, not a fact source

Prepare a draft with the verified specifications and any required warnings. Submit it in Standard mode, then compare the revision with the original and the authoritative product record. Humanizely supports 15 languages, and the free allowance is 500 words per request. For a longer listing, divide it into coherent sections and review terminology across the finished page. Check especially for new performance claims, missing exclusions, altered numbers, and accessories that suddenly appear to be included. Keep citations attached to the specific claims they support; a supplier reference does not substantiate every sentence. Finally, read the description beside the images, variant selector, and specification table. Resolve contradictions before publishing rather than asking shoppers to work out which detail is correct.

Storage basket: replace vague praise with specifications

Before

Experience exceptional organization with our premium woven basket. Measuring 30 × 20 × 15 cm, it features two handles and a removable cotton liner. Sold individually.

After

Keep small items together in this woven storage basket. It measures 30 × 20 × 15 cm and has two handles and a removable cotton liner. Each order includes one basket.

The revision removes unsupported quality language and clarifies the quantity. Dimensions and liner material stay unchanged. Check the product record before adding cleaning instructions or describing the handles as load-bearing.

USB-C cable: keep the performance qualification

Before

Unlock next-level charging with this 2 m USB-C to USB-C cable. Supports up to 60 W with compatible devices and a suitable charger. Charger not included.

After

This 2 m USB-C to USB-C cable supports charging at up to 60 W when used with compatible devices and a suitable charger. The charger is sold separately.

The rewrite leads with connector type and length while retaining the power limit and compatibility condition. Confirm that the charger is available separately; otherwise retain “Charger not included.” Do not infer data-transfer speeds or video support.

Notebook: keep the page count and avoid paper claims

Before

Elevate every idea with our exquisite A5 notebook, featuring 160 ruled pages, 100 gsm paper, and a ribbon marker. A truly indispensable companion for boundless creativity.

After

Use this A5 notebook for notes, lists, and ideas. It has 160 ruled pages, 100 gsm paper, and a ribbon marker to help you find your place.

Concrete uses replace inflated praise without changing the format, page count, or paper weight. Verify that 160 means pages, not sheets. Paper weight alone does not establish fountain-pen compatibility or resistance to ink bleed.

Editing tips

  1. Lead with the product name and defining feature; save brand storytelling for after the essential purchase details.

  2. Use search terms where they describe the item naturally, rather than repeating the same phrase in every sentence.

  3. Keep variant-specific facts separate so a large-size description does not accidentally appear on the small-size listing.

  4. Retain warnings and exclusions even when they interrupt a smoother sales narrative.

  5. Read the final copy aloud, then check every number against the source—not against your memory.

Frequently asked questions

What does humanizing a product description mean?

It means replacing awkward or formulaic wording with clear, specific English while preserving the product facts and purchase conditions.

Can I start with a supplier description?

Yes, if you have permission to use it. Verify its specifications against the exact item and variant you sell before rewriting.

Should every feature become a benefit?

No. Some specifications are useful on their own. Add a benefit only when the connection is accurate and helps a purchase decision.

Can a rewrite improve search rankings?

Clear, relevant copy can make a page more useful, but a rewrite cannot guarantee rankings. Avoid keyword stuffing and preserve distinguishing product details.

What if the draft lacks specifications?

Ask for the missing product data. Do not fill gaps with plausible materials, certifications, compatibility claims, or care instructions.

Are these examples customer results?

No. They are original fictional educational samples showing editing decisions, not evidence of customer outcomes or sales performance.
