Who this is for
For undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and scholarly authors revising original manuscripts, especially writers working in English as an additional language. This workflow supports language editing, not outsourced research or undisclosed authorship.
Revise the prose, not the research
Start by identifying what each passage must accomplish. An introduction establishes a gap; a methods section supports reproducibility; results report observations; a discussion interprets them within limits. A sentence that sounds polished but changes one of those functions is not an improvement.
Submit a focused passage with instructions to preserve technical terminology, citation placement, quantities, and uncertainty. Humanizely’s free allowance is 500 words per request, so a short subsection is a practical starting point. Ask for direct language rather than conversational language: replacing “utilized” with “used” may help, while replacing “statistically significant” with “important” changes the meaning.
After revision, compare sentences against the original. Check whether the actor, action, population, and strength of each claim are unchanged.
Protect citations, methods, and numerical meaning
Citation integrity means more than retaining bracketed numbers. A reference must still support the exact claim beside it. If a rewrite combines sentences, check that a citation has not become attached to an unsupported generalization. Verify author names, publication years, quotation wording, and page references against the source; never accept a newly supplied reference without locating and reading it.
For methods and results, check sample sizes, recruitment dates, units, instrument settings, exclusion criteria, confidence intervals, and statistical notation. Keep the distinction between participants recruited and participants analyzed. Do not let a rewrite turn an association into a causal effect or a nonsignificant result into proof of no difference.
Retain necessary repetition in procedural descriptions. Consistent variable names are more useful than elegant synonyms when readers need to reproduce an analysis.
Use a transparent, author-led revision workflow
Before submitting text, check your institution’s, supervisor’s, and target journal’s policies on AI-assisted language editing. Permission in one course or publication does not establish permission elsewhere. Avoid uploading identifiable participant information, confidential peer-review material, or unpublished collaborator content without authorization and appropriate safeguards.
Save your original draft, the revision request, and the version you accepted. Review changes with coauthors where relevant, and disclose assistance when required, using the venue’s requested wording. You remain responsible for the final manuscript, including statements introduced accidentally during editing.
Read the revised passage alongside its surrounding paragraphs. Confirm that definitions remain consistent and transitions reflect the actual argument. The goal is readable original scholarship, not concealed prohibited AI use or a guaranteed detector outcome.
