Who this page is for
For students revising original coursework, multilingual writers refining academic English, and researchers adapting essay-style arguments. Check your assignment rules first: permission to use spelling support does not necessarily include permission to use generative rewriting.
Start with the assignment, thesis, and paragraph purpose
Before submitting a passage for revision, identify what the assignment asks you to do: compare interpretations, defend a position, analyze a text, or reflect on experience. Write down your thesis and the role of each paragraph. A smoother sentence is not an improvement if it changes a qualified claim into an absolute one or turns analysis into summary. Start with a passage whose purpose you understand. Mark terminology, quotations, and citations that must remain unchanged. If the argument itself is unclear, return to your notes and develop it yourself before requesting wording changes.
Revise academic prose without weakening the evidence
In Academic mode, prioritize direct subjects, precise verbs, and transitions that explain relationships. Replace an empty opening such as “It is important to note that” with the actual claim. Keep discipline-specific vocabulary when it carries meaning; “statistically significant” is not interchangeable with “important.” Preserve hedges such as “may” when the evidence is limited. Check every revised factual statement against the source, including dates, sample sizes, units, and page references. Keep citations attached to the claims they support. Never let a paraphrase become a quotation, and never accept an added reference without finding and reading the source.
Review the revision as an accountable author
Compare the original and revised passages side by side. Ask whether the paragraph still advances your thesis and whether you could explain each sentence to your instructor. Read it within the full essay: a polished paragraph can still repeat the introduction or contradict the conclusion. Humanizely allows 500 words per free request, so split longer essays at paragraph boundaries and review consistency afterward. Keep your outline, drafts, source notes, and revision history. Follow institutional rules on permitted assistance and disclose use when required. Do not use rewriting to conceal prohibited AI use; submit only work you are authorized to produce.
