Who this page is for
For job seekers revising AI-assisted or self-written cover letters, including graduates, career changers and experienced applicants who want a professional voice without inflated claims.
Start with evidence, not a more impressive adjective
Before revising, identify the vacancy’s two or three most important requirements. Pair each with evidence you can defend in an interview: a relevant project, a responsibility you held or a documented outcome. If the role involves customer onboarding, explain your onboarding work rather than calling yourself a “results-driven professional.”
Keep a short factual checklist beside your draft: employer names, job titles, employment dates, qualifications, tools used and numerical achievements. Preserve distinctions such as supporting versus leading, and team outcomes versus individual results. A rewrite must not turn “helped prepare monthly reports” into “owned financial reporting.” When evidence is missing, remove the claim or supply a truthful example; smoother wording cannot fill an experience gap.
Give Professional mode a tightly defined editing task
Paste your draft into Humanizely and select Professional mode. Before submitting, remove unnecessary personal details and any confidential information from a current or former employer. Include only information you are comfortable sharing and have permission to use.
Set clear revision constraints wherever you provide editing instructions: retain all factual details, use direct language, avoid exaggerated enthusiasm and keep the focus on the advertised role. For example: “Keep my contribution as supporting the project, not leading it. Preserve the dates and percentages. Replace stock phrases with plain professional language.”
Review paragraph purpose as well as wording. The opening should identify the role and a credible reason for applying. The middle should connect evidence to requirements. The closing should express interest in discussing your fit without assuming an interview is guaranteed.
Check the revised letter against the application
Compare the revision with your original draft, résumé and job advertisement. Confirm that titles, dates and results agree across documents. Verify employer-specific statements using the actual vacancy or an official company source; do not repeat an invented mission statement or describe an old initiative as current.
Read the letter aloud and replace any sentence you would struggle to explain naturally in an interview. Keep relevant terminology, but remove repeated keywords and unsupported superlatives. Follow the employer’s length and submission instructions before applying a general one-page preference. For a portal text box, check paragraph breaks after pasting. For an attachment, inspect the exported file for missing text, incorrect contact details and a leftover company name from another application.
