Who this guide is for
For professionals revising emails and reports, applicants protecting the accuracy of their achievements, and writers editing ChatGPT-assisted content they are permitted to use.
1. Check what ChatGPT was asked to produce
Before editing, compare the draft with your prompt and any source material you supplied. Did you request a neutral summary but receive a recommendation? Did a short customer email become a formal announcement? These are instruction mismatches, not merely style problems. Write down the intended reader, purpose, length and required details before submitting text for revision.
Mark facts that must not change: names, dates, dimensions, amounts, qualifications and quoted language. Separate those from editable wording. If ChatGPT supplied a citation, open the source and confirm that it exists and supports the particular claim. A plausible title or link is not verification. Remove unsupported claims or flag them for research rather than polishing them into something more convincing.
2. Use Standard mode for a focused language revision
Paste the passage you want to revise into Humanizely and select Standard mode. The free allowance is 500 words per request, so choose a coherent section rather than cutting halfway through an argument. Keep its relevant qualifications and citations together. Humanizely supports 15 languages; for this English workflow, check that the result matches your preferred spelling and terminology.
Treat the output as an editing proposal. Compare it with the ChatGPT draft and your source notes. Look for useful changes such as replacing abstract openings with the main point, reducing repeated transitions and giving actions clear subjects. Reject changes that introduce unsupported certainty, a new promise or an emotion you do not genuinely mean. Do not add deliberate errors to seem human. Clarity and a consistent voice are better editorial goals.
3. Finish according to the genre, not a detector
Different drafts need different final checks. In a customer email, make the request and next step easy to find without inventing a deadline. In a report, distinguish observations from explanations and recommendations. In a résumé, preserve your actual role, achievement figures and scope of responsibility; stronger verbs must not turn participation into leadership.
For academic or admissions writing, follow institutional policies, produce your own original work and disclose assistance when required. Revision must not conceal prohibited AI use. Keep your notes and earlier drafts where appropriate. AI detectors make statistical classifications and can produce false positives; they do not establish authorship. Neither a rewrite nor Humanizely guarantees a particular detector outcome. Finish by reading aloud and checking every substantive statement against what you know or can document.
